After a decade of struggling as a science fiction writer, Li Zhiwei finally earns a nomination for the Galaxy Award with his novel *The Death of Mara*. However, during a celebration on a secluded island, he unexpectedly travels through time and discovers that he is destined to be stabbed to death with a steak knife at midnight. Everyone at the villa seems to be hiding something: Xiaotao, his longtime friend who demands writing credit for the novel; Sophie, his obsessive girlfriend; An'an, his troubled ex-girlfriend; and Mr. Dai, a copyright representative. With each of them under suspicion, Li Zhiwei uses a mysterious nursery rhyme to travel repeatedly through time, desperately searching for the killer and a way to escape his fate. As he pieces together the clues, he uncovers the truth behind the disappearance of a boy named Mara ten years earlier. Bullied at school and betrayed by his friends, Mara vanished amid a series of mysterious events involving overlapping timelines. Li Zhiwei gradually realizes that the helmeted figure and the dangers surrounding him are part of an elaborate scheme orchestrated by those closest to him. Xiaotao and An'an have already discovered the rules of time travel, while Mr. Dai is revealed to be Mara's father, who arranged the gathering to uncover the truth about his son's disappearance. Trapped in countless time loops, Li Zhiwei is forced to confront his own indifference and selfishness from the past. Ultimately, he finds a chance to make amends in a parallel timeline, bringing his journey of guilt, regret, and redemption to a close.
